Why Get Breast Reduction?
Large and heavy breasts can cause back and shoulder pain, and inhibit activities such as exercise. Bra straps may leave indentations in the shoulders and large breasts can affect self-esteem and restrict shopping and clothes wearing. Reduction mammaplasty, commonly referred to as a breast reduction, removes soft tissue and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola. The goal is to give the patient a smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body.
The breast reduction surgery is performed in an outpatient setting. If you are admitted to the hospital after surgery, you will be discharged the following morning. Techniques for breast reduction vary, but the most common procedure involves scar placement that circles the areola, extends downward, and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. You will need to wear a surgical bra for several weeks as the swelling and bruising subside. Please see all of our cosmetic surgery services here.
